Songza Busts Out Chromecast Integration, Holiday Playlists

Songza's apps have been updated with the ability to detect and stream to Google Chromecast.

Google has awoken to the threat of Apple’s AirPlay ecosystem, which has been grabbing Android users in the absence of a Google-based alternative.

Google’s Chromecast $35 device plugs into the back of any HDTV, bringing apps and services to televisions and sound systems on the cheap.

Today, Songza became the second third-party music app on Chromecast, following Pandora and Google’s own Play and YouTube apps, to offer native support for Chromecast. Yes, you can force any web app to send music to a Chromecast using the Google Chrome browser — but this integration makes it easier.

If you fire up the Songza app on your (updated as of today or later) Songza smartphone app, or if you visit with a Google Chrome browser, you’ll see the Cast icon show up in the upper right corner of the screen, whenever there’s a Chromecast on your WiFi network. Tap that, and your tunes will start playing out of the television, or, better, the nice sound system that is connected to it.

Coinciding with the announcement, Songza issued a bunch of new playlists for the holidays, under the umbrella “Chromecast Owner’s Guide To A Better Christmas Party”:
