Now It’s Time To Remix the Mayors of New York

remix the new york mayor

Our friends at WNYC Soundcheck, which is syndicated by NPR, have devised an amusing way to celebrate New York City’s mayoral changing of the guard: a remix contest that offers choice audio clips from some of New York’s mayors of note — everybody from Ed Koch to David Dinkins to Michael Bloomberg, and even all the way back to Fiorello La Guardia.

We were on the fence about whether this politically-oriented remix contest was newsworthy for a publication about digital music, but

1) One of the judges is Evan Gregory of The Gregory Brothers.

2) WNYC Soundcheck host John Schaefer already gave it a shot, and the result is amusing:

3) The samples that you get to use are kind of fun, even on their own:

If this sounds interesting, you have until September 29 to submit your entry. The instructions are here. They’re going to play their favorites on air, and make a special announcement of the winner.
