Spotify Lands Exclusive Daft Punk ‘Get Lucky’ Remix

daft_punk_remix_get_luckyIn another sign that the race to be “patient zero” for new music continues heating up, Spotify is promoting an exclusive remix of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.”

This song, which seems to be coming out of half of the cars driving around this summer with their windows open, based on extremely limited anecdotal evidence, is the closest thing we have to a summer jam.

Spotify already scored points with this song after the band initially released the “Get Lucky” single there. It quickly became so popular that it turned into a Michael Jackson video meme. Daft Punk, whose hype campaign for the Random Access Memory album has been masterful, then convinced every music blog in the world to link to its iTunes pre-order by streaming the entire album there.

As of today, Spotify tells Evolver.fm that the “Get Lucky” single has been streamed a remarkable 64 million times there, so it’s no wonder it was willing/eager to release the remix, which will be available exclusively on Spotify for a week.

“It has been incredible to watch ‘Get Lucky’ become a bonafide cross-over smash hit, and to witness Daft Punk reaching such a broad new audience,” said Spotify head of content Steve Savoca in a statement. “I believe it’s a testament to the power of non-traditional consumption, and we are honored to be partners in this success. This new and exclusive remix promises to cement ‘Get Lucky”s place as the soundtrack of the summer and beyond.”

Will lightning strike thrice?

Spotify, in releasing Daft Punk’s self- remix of “Get Lucky” in all of its 10 minutes and 33 seconds, sure hopes so. You be the judge:
