Why is music too free to be expensive and too expensive to be free? Napster isn’t entirely responsible, but it sure was a lot easier for the average music fan than Usenet.

Yesterday, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich hugged Napster co-founder Sean Parker at a Spotify media event in New York. Over a decade ago, the two had a very different relationship, of course.

An upcoming movie, Downloaded, from filmmaker Alex Winter (a.k.a. “Bill”), features both men as it tells the story of one of the most influential software applications, social networks, and music delivery systems of our time.
