Want an easy way to both listen to all the tunes posted on your favorite blogs and find even more blogs and tunes to consume with gusto? Well, Hype Machine’s Spotify app has you covered.
Hype Machine — the Brooklyn-based music blog aggregator born in 2005 — recently released a simple yet useful app on Spotify’s platform that both throws some shine on music blogs and helps users easily listen to tunes all in one place. Hype Machine, the website [and app], is known for curating streamable MP3s posted to music blogs and helping users discover new content thusly. The Spotify app works in a similar fashion.
When you first fire up the app, you’ll find a selection of playlists from Hype Machine-highlighted blogs (out of the 800+ that they monitor over there). You can also search for blogs by genre or name to undercover mixes of tunes that were recently posted to that site. If you like what you hear, you can add that playlist to your library wholesale for future listening. Like the tunes on a certain playlist but not familiar with the blog? Click through to read up. There’s no extraneous text or blog posts in the app, however, so you have to leave the app to check out the goods.
All in all, it’s a pretty simple app, but that simplicity serves its purpose in this case: Like a blog and the songs it posts? Listen in one continuous stream on mobile or desktop. In a way, the app is very similar to Shuffler.fm, a website and iOS app that lets you surf through music blogs and tunes and create your own Frankenstein’s monster-type music magazine. Hype Machine’s app, however, seems more focused on the music posted to the blogs than the blog content, getting tunes on your mobile (if you have Spotify premium) and in your ears ASAP.
