WNYC Soundcheck: Evolver.fm’s Guide to Anti-Boredom Music Apps

music apps that fight boredom wnyc soundcheck

Have you ever been bored? Are you a little bored even now? There’s no shame in it; the first step is admitting you have a problem.

To help the temporarily or chronically bored, Evolver.fm set out to find the best music apps for defeating boredom, in collaboration with WNYC’s popular Soundcheck radio program. I always enjoy the chance to discuss digital music with Soundcheck host John Schaefer, and this was no exception.

Enjoy:

Here’s WNYC’s description of the segment, along with video demonstrations and download links for the apps discussed above:

“As the French author Jules Renard once wrote, ‘Being bored is an insult to oneself.’ And he didn’t even have a smartphone! In today’s digital environment, there’s really no reason to ever find yourself with nothing to do (well, unless your phone or computer dies — and then you’re just out of luck). Evolver.fm writer Eliot Van Buskirk joins us to recommend four musical apps that not only bust boredom, but also allow users to create and sometimes even share their own musical works…
