Android users who subscribe to Spotify or have joined the 30-day free trial have a treat waiting for them this morning: a brand new Spotify Android app that has been completely redesigned, and it looks pretty slick. The new app supports the Android 4.0 operating system as well “all-new slide-out navigation, ” the ability to see your friends’ Spotify profile pages and play their playlists, higher-resolution artist images, a “related artists” view, and perhaps most importantly, it’s “so much faster.”
Spotify is working on a few more additions to the new Android app, currently available as a preview, including folder organization and the ability to scrobble plays to Last.fm, which spokeswoman Deanna Davis said the company hopes to implement before the official version goes live in the Google Play app store.
To use this preview version, users must follow these directions:
“Set your phone to allow installation from ‘Unknown Sources’ by going to the Settings > Applications > Unknown sources menu. Once that’s done, click on the button below on your phone to get the update.”
Here’s a gallery of screenshots of Spotify’s new Android app. We’ll leave it at that, because we haven’t used it yet:
