November 3, 2011 at 11:18 am Musical Dating Site: Nickelback, Bieber, Gaga Are Turn-Offs

(We’re reposting this one in advance of Valentine’s Day, just in case you’re looking for someone.)

Are you dating? More specifically, are you dating a music fan? Don’t talk about your undying fealty to Nickelback, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, or any of the other artists mentioned above., which promises to match people based on musical taste (lonely hearts who like “everything” or “music I can dance to” need not apply), data-mined its listings to determine which bands were most likely to show up as dealbreakers among their dating pool of music fans.

Granted, people who use (powered by data from, The Echo Nestpublisher of, and SongKick) have already self-selected themselves as those for whom music is of primary importance, rather than just something that happens in the background as they watch movies or play videogames. So it’s not surprising that so many of these artists are of the omnipresent and over-marketed stripe.

Still, anyone who wants to date someone who considers themselves an active music fan should be aware of these dealbreakers.

Conversely, if you’re on a date with a music snob that’s not going well, you can always wrap things up really quickly by talking about your dream lineup for a concert: Kei$ha opening for a Lady Gaga/Justin Bieber duet followed by headliners Nickelback.

Check, please!

Bonus: Here’s the breakdown by gender. Stunningly, Nickelback, Bieber, and Gaga top both lists:
