In celebration of the iPod’s tenth birthday this week, we put together a timeline of the milestones that have come along the way: important updates, new models, and the like. It’s fascinating to see how many of the iPod’s iconic design elements were there from the very beginning, and which were added later:
A few highlights: The very first iPod had a scroll wheel that actually moved with your finger, iPods had FireWire ports instead of the now-standard dock connector until 2003, and iTunes existed for two years before Windows support was added.
