Hot on the heels of our successful Hurricane Irene collaborative Spotify playlist (listen here), we thought we’d put another one together in honor of the band R.E.M., which announced today that it was breaking up after 31 years.
The Evolver.fm collaborative RIP R.E.M. playlist will contain a crowdsourced selection of songs by the band, as well as a smattering of songs by bands that fell under the influence of their jangly sound, or which influenced them.
I’ve seeded the list with my favorites already, which lean heavily towards the band’s early years because I am one of those obnoxious types who thinks they probably should have broken up either before or after 1988′s Green. The rest is up to you. (I promise not to delete “Everybody Hurts” or “Losing My Religion” if someone adds them.)
Feel free to listen, add your own favorite R.E.M. songs, reorder the list to shift the tunes you like towards the top, and share it with whomever you want. Hopefully, with your help, we’ll end up with the perfect selection for recalling this seminal band, which emerged from ’80s college radio to become a household name worldwide.
